Bira Wines – Uco Valley

Country:

Bira Wine’s goal is to achieve, through in-depth knowledge of each terroir in which we operate, the best expression of freshness, elegance, and unique personality for our wines. Their viticultural management promotes life in the soil, healthy plants with sufficient canopies to achieve early maturity and protect the natural acidity of the grapes.

Our vineyards are located in three sub-regions of Uco Valley:

La Arboleda: One of the genetic “museums” of viticulture in the Uco Valley, a place where small areas of old vineyards of unconventional varieties can still be found.
Search for the ideal Sangiovese:

Bira’s search for the ideal Sangiovese for their blends led them to go inch by inch through this terroir until they found an old vineyard planted back in 1970 in Pergola and another one managed in VSP trellis from 1967. They followed the same path with our Malvasia, also VSP but from 1964 located in this particular place.

Terroir:
These vineyards at 1,100 meters above sea level are located on the north-east bank of the Anchayuyo River on a marked north-south slope, providing privileged conditions of sunshine and protection against frost. The old, ungrafted vines planted in this soil of alluvial origin, sandy loamy with pebbles on the surface regulate their yields naturally, giving wines of extreme elegance. Fourth generation of vintners who maintain the knowledge and passion of working the vineyard and preserved it from time and the “advances” of modern viticulture.

Gualtallari: This is the place where some of the highest vineyards in the Uco Valley are located.
In this very cold climate weather with low rainfall, together with a skeletal soil formed by sand and stone, we achieve the ideal conditions for the Merlot, Cabernet franc and Malbec varietals, seeking in each of them great aromatic intensity, high natural acidity and moderate alcohol; complementing the Sangiovese perfectly to achieve the interpretations of great Argentinian wines with Italian style from BIRA.

La Consulta: This Syrah vineyard, located at 1,050 meters above sea level, has been planted in 1978 in the vicinity of the town of Villa Chacón, which is why we call it the “village” vineyard. The particular conditions in this area of the Uco Valley means that Bira can achieve the best of this varietal for their constant search for freshness and elegance in the wines.
